Crowsnest Pass residents vote in favour of Grassy Mountain Project
The electorate of the Crowsnest Pass has spoken, receiving a 72% yes
BLAIRMORE, AB – November 26, 2024 – Residents of the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass have cast their votes in support of the Grassy Mountain steelmaking coal mine project. This vote represents a significant milestone for Northback Holdings Corporation and the future economic development of the region.
On September 10, 2024, the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass Council passed a motion to hold a vote on the question, “Do you support the development and operations of the metallurgical coal mine at Grassy Mountain?” A majority of eligible voters responded positively, with 72% supporting, demonstrating strong local backing for the project.
This positive outcome from the vote reinforces the efforts of Northback to engage and work with local citizens and small businesses as well as First Nations, including Piikani Nation.
The citizens of Crowsnest Pass have spoken in support of jobs and opportunities that will result from the responsible development of Grassy Mountain.
This vote provides a clear mandate as Northback moves forward with regulatory approvals with the support of residents in the Crowsnest Pass.
Steelmaking coal is an absolute necessity for modern life, given its role in the production of steel. The Government of Alberta needs to provide clarity on regulatory processes and certainty for resource investment in general.
